Week 3 | August 22
Three weeks old is when the world starts getting a whole lot bigger for Mac’s babies.

Their eyes and ears are open, they are becoming more aware of one another, and those wobbly little movements are beginning to turn into purposeful exploration. This is one of my favorite stages of Australian Labradoodle puppy development because we can almost watch their brains begin connecting the dots.

At Noble Vestal Labradoodles, we believe early puppy socialization and enrichment should follow development, not race ahead of it. There is a right time to introduce new spaces, textures, sounds, handling, and challenges. Introduce too much too early and it can overwhelm a developing puppy. Wait too long and valuable developmental opportunities can be missed.

This week, Mac’s puppies are moving into a larger puppy space designed specifically for this stage of development. Their environment now includes a designated potty station along with carefully selected toys, surfaces, textures, and objects to explore.

They aren’t really playing with toys yet. Instead, they are discovering them.

A paw lands on something that moves. A nose bumps a new texture. An object makes an unexpected sound. A puppy toddles across a different surface and stops to investigate.

These tiny experiences may not look like much, but they are exactly what three-week-old puppies need.

We also begin establishing the earliest foundations of potty training. As puppies become mobile, they naturally begin moving away from their sleeping area to eliminate. Providing an appropriately designed potty station at this developmental stage gives them a clear place to follow that instinct and begins building habits long before they ever leave us for their new homes.

Over the coming weeks, Mac’s Australian Labradoodle puppies will experience increasingly complex enrichment, handling, socialization, grooming foundations, household sounds, crate introduction, training concepts, and real-world experiences. Each new challenge will be introduced when they are developmentally ready for it.

There is no need to rush puppyhood.

Our job is to recognize when each little developmental door opens and make sure there is something meaningful waiting on the other side.

Mac’s babies are three weeks old, finding their feet, discovering their world, and officially entering one of the most exciting stages of Growing Up Noble.

Week 2 | August 22
Mac’s litter of Australian Labradoodle puppies are now two weeks old, and every day brings a little more growth. While they still spend most of their time sleeping and nursing, an incredible amount of development is happening behind the scenes.

Their eyes have opened!… but they still do not have full vision. Just as nature intended during this stage of development. For now, they experience the world through scent, touch, warmth, and the reassuring presence of their mother and littermates. Every day, their brains, nervous systems, muscles, and senses continue to mature, preparing them for the exciting milestones that are still to come.

Healthy weight gain remains one of our biggest priorities, and each puppy is thriving. We carefully monitor every baby daily to ensure they are nursing well, growing consistently, and meeting each developmental milestone along the way.

Our daily routine is intentionally calm and predictable. Mom continues providing exceptional care while each puppy receives gentle handling and Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS). These brief interactions support healthy neurological development and help lay the foundation for confident, resilient companions.

Although these first weeks may seem quiet, they are some of the most important. Every nap, every nursing session, and every cuddle is helping build healthy bodies and minds.

Before long, these tiny babies will begin discovering the world in entirely new ways. We can’t wait to share each milestone with you as their personalities begin to blossom.

August 15th
Did you know that dogs are an altricial species they are born before they are fully developed in contrast to precocial species who can stand and walk around within hours of birth?

Apart from not being able to stand puppies are not yet fully developed. Their eyes and ears are sealed shut to protect them while they continue to develop. It will take a puppy months of development to achieve what other mammals can do shortly after birth.

There is a huge social aspect to this. Precocial species are able to wander off and get lost moments after birth. It is for their protection that they imprint and bond with their mother and distrust and fear everything else. In contrast, altricial species cannot wander off for weeks or even months after birth so they will always be under the protection of their mother. They have a long and flexible social period. It is because of this that humans and dogs are able to bond so closely.
