It has nothing to do with the Australian Shepherd which I get asked all the time! And it isn't a lab poodle mix either. It is a mix of 10 breeds including the Labrador Retriever, Curly Coated Retriever, Portuguese Water Dog, Poodle Cocker Spaniel, Irish Water Spaniel, English Spaniel and a few other breeds. Today's Australian Labradoodle can be described mostly as retriever, spaniel, poodle. But it hasn't been breed as a mix using those parent breeds for many generations. We breed Australian Labradoodle to Australian Labradoodle to create a consistent type. Our dogs trace back to the founding breeder's (Tegan Park and Rutland Manor) original breeding stock.
We breed Mini, Mediums & Standards. Size is determined by height.
Standards can be anything between 22 and 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh 50 - 80 pounds.
Mediums range between 18 and 21 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 30 - 45 pounds.
Miniatures vary from 12 inches to 17 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 15 and 25 pounds.
At Noble Vestal Labradoodles we do not consider gender as a priority for placement and it is not part of our application process. It is important to understand animal behavior and how dogs are prewired. Many of your preconceived thoughts about gender are based on experiences you might have had with another dog but it is important to remember that all dogs are individuals and many breeds exhibit specific behaviors that are part of their breed makeup. For example you may have had a very territorial westie who hiked his leg on the sofa or a male dachshund that chased kids and nipped at them from behind. Know that these behaviors were unique to those dogs and their breed. Australian Labradoodles are non dominant, social and outgoing. Males and females are both equally easy to train and loving. A female is not going to be more maternal toward your children. Your children are not her puppies. A boy dog isn't going to be more likely to mark or hump than a female. Most of what you think you know is a myth and not based in science or behavior. Temperament of each individual puppy and the dynamics of your family is our main focus when we consider each placement.
Australian Labradoodles are an intelligent breed of dog. They are very social, outgoing, love to be around their people and everyone they meet is their long lost best friend. The Labradoodle is comical and loves to play. They are a non dominant breed and do well with other Australian Labradoodles. They are the modern family companion!
We raise our puppies using the Puppy Culture method and while this might be the new trend this is how we have always raised our puppies! This process starts before birth by providing our dogs with the proper environment that is low stress, conducive to what a dog needs and by providing optimal nutrition for health. We provide puppies and moms with a low stress safe space to be with their puppies. Early Neurological Stimulation is a big part of our puppy's life from the day they are born and until they join your family. Our puppies live in our home and are introduced to all of the sights, sounds and activities of an average home. Additionally we start the potty training and crate training process with our puppies. Along with providing a socially rich environment and introducing the puppies to the foundations of leash work and sitting for attention our puppies go on an average of four to five car rides before they join your family. Raising confident and well rounded puppies is our goal. The things we do here before a puppy joins your family makes it an easy low stress transition you and the puppy!
Australian Labradoodles are highly intelligent, athletic and social animals. They require exercise daily. Leash walking your Australian Labradoodle is the easiest way to provide exercise. Two to three, 30 minute walks a day is sufficient. Because they are very smart and social they do best when they have something to do. An Australian Labradoodle that is home alone for many hours during the day without companionship will be very bored and require your full attention when you return home. If you have children and a lot of activities that keep you busy after a long day at work you might not want to get an Australian Labradoodle. You need to be prepared to meet their physical and mental needs.
This dog is also a full coated breed. It is not a dog that you can wash in your tub at home. You must have them professionally groomed! It is recommended to have them groomed every four weeks for at least a bath and blowout and a haircut every 12 weeks. You will need to brush and comb this dog out every day.
Anything with hair will shed even hairless breeds of dogs shed micro fine hairs and dander. The Australian Labradoodle sheds less than you or I and most dog breeds. There are many oodle mixes today and it is important to realize that they are not the same as the Australian Labradoodle. Firstly because the Australian Labradoodle has been bred since the early 80's it has the opportunity to breed away from the shedding gene. Many oodle mixes are comprised of a shedding breed and a poodle. The shedding breed will carry two copies of the dominant shedding gene and the poodle can carry one copy of each of the shedding gene and the non shedding gene or two copies of the non shedding gene. A first cross oodle mix also referred to as an F1 will produce 90% shedding offspring due to the dominance of the shedding gene. The F1b or F2 will produce 75% shedding offspring. This is where most oodle cross breeders stop with the advancement of their lines. The F3 will often produce as high as 90% shedding puppies and therefore many breeders do not seek to breed past the F1b. In addition to shedding there are five other components to animal allergies... dander, mites, saliva... are a few. So it is going to depend on what exactly you are allergic to.
More than 90% of our families have reported in their application that they have allergies and none have ever reported an allergic reaction to their Australian Labradoodle. We have produced many dogs who are facility dogs within schools, medical offices, and courtrooms. We also have many owners who do Animal Assisted Therapy work with their dog in hospitals, libraries, schools, nursing homes and home visits. If there is one thing I know to be true and that is people love to complain! If our dogs were in facilities with the sick or with children causing allergic reactions these dogs would be removed from such duties. We are very proud of our community service work and all of our dog who work in the public.

Once we have received your application we usually phone you within 48 hours except on weekends. You are always welcome to call us.
We evaluate families to asses best fit given the dynamics of the family and match you to a puppy based on the temperament of that individual puppy. Our puppies are matched with families based on the information we receive from your application and our phone interview. Animal behavior is an important focus of ours, we spend about 3,000 hours evaluating our puppies before they join your family.
We do not place puppies based on gender, most things you think you know are based on things you might have experienced with a past dog or things you have heard; most of which are individual to that dog or myth. We do not mind when families have a color preference however many of our litters will produce an array of colors and patterns; families on the reservation list for a litter with such variety must be open to all colors and patters.
When waiting for your perfect match it is important that families not fixate on one particular puppy. We know the wait is hard, you have romanticized your new puppy and there will always be one that captivates the eye of the camera. 10 families cannot share one puppy. You will get the perfect puppy for your family!
If we feel like we are unable to make a suitable match for you we will gladly move your reservation to another litter to better suit your wishlist. We allow families to defer on a litter up to three times or hold their wait for up to three years, whichever comes first.
We understand that some families do not understand this process or want to have more control over picking out their puppy. Trust me, you are in control. This puppy is matched specifically to you! Please note that coat and nose color do change intensity over time, some fade, some get darker; little with makings blend in and disappear as the dominant coat color takes over. We estimate mature size based on past litters and family history with each pairing. Sometimes puppies are smaller or larger than we expect at maturity. Sometimes puppies fade from red to creme. If you are only open to a puppy that is of a very specific size and guaranteed to never fade, I am afraid that we probably aren't the right breeder for you.
Reservation fees are non refundable. The reservation fee is forfeited after three deferrals or three years from the date of receipt, whichever comes first. We reserve the right of refusal should we feel like we are not a good fit for a family or a family has multiple reservations or deposits with other breeders.
Once your application has been approved and you have paid your reservation fee you are placed on our waitlist. Our waitlist is a master list held in order of the receipt of your reservation fee and the parameters of your wishlist. Once a litter is born we go to the top of our waitlist and work our way down notifying families that match the parameters of the litter based on your wishlist You will be asked to confirmed or defer your reservation for that specific litter. We hold reservations for up to three years or three deferrals whichever comes first.
We are located in north central Indiana just a few hours from Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit, Louisville, and St Louis.
We have puppies all over the country and in fact many in other countries as well. We do not ship our puppies and require that families pick up their puppy in person. We are located in north central Indiana. While we are an easy day trip from Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin; some families will fly into Indianapolis International and then rent a car or call our driver for pick up. Uber is not a good option, you can get here but there are no drivers to take you back. If you fly private we have two private airports near us (ask for details).
